CAPPE/ACPEP 2008 April 9 -12 2008
From the CAPPE/ACPEP 08 Conference Planning Committee
We are honoured to officially invite you to come to Victoria, BC, for CAPPE/ACPEP 08 with the theme “Return to the Garden: Cultivating Growth, Hope and Healing”. At the request of the Professional Practice Commission, we are inaugurating the first Professional Development Day on Wednesday, April 9 th, just prior to the beginning of the Conference. The Professional Development Day includes 5 day long Continuing Education Seminars.
We will be blessed by two keynote speakers who will help bring the theme of our Conference to life.
Dr. Carrie Doehring is the Associate Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, and the author of the recent book The Practice of Pastoral Care: A Postmodern Approach. Dr. Doehring will also be offering one of the Continuing Education Seminars on Wednesday.
Dr. Martin Brokenleg is the Director of Native Ministries Programmes and Professor of First Nations Ministry and Theology at Vancouver School of Theology. He will be speaking to us about cultivating growth, hope and healing from the perspective of those who are well acquainted with pain, suffering, and brokenness.
As many of you know, CAPPE/ACPEP and the Profession of Spiritual and Pastoral Care in Canada is in the midst of considerable maturation and change. In all likelihood, what we will look like as a professional organization in the future will be very different from how we have looked and functioned in the past. In order to ensure we all have an opportunity to learn more about this time of change and transition and be heard, the Professional Practice Commission and the Education Standards Commission will each be sponsoring a Forum. This will be followed by a Plenary Presentation by the CAPPE/ACPEP Board on Envisioning and Embracing the Future Before Us. This is a critical time for Spiritual Care professionals, and for our Association. Your participation in these important sessions is vital.
In addition to the myriad of learning opportunities that will stimulate our thinking and reflecting, including challenging Workshops and a Book Launch, CAPPE/ACPEP 08 will be introducing Encountering The World Workshops. Designed to feed our souls while engaging with our members and the world around us in Victoria, these family friendly events include encounters with features that make Victoria special and unique.
Finally, we have heard from many of you who were hoping that the closing Banquet could truly be a celebration of our professional association and family. To facilitate the participation of all in the Banquet, we have included the cost of the Banquet in the Conference Registration Fee. Additional events or meals included in the Conference Registration include the President’s Reception, the AGM Lunch on Friday and the Plenary Lunch on Saturday.
We look forward to seeing you in Victoria this April.
Warm Regards,
Dale W. Johnson, Chair
