Peer Review - An overview
Specialists Peer Review
General Guidelines:
1. A Peer Review is necessary within the fourth year after the most recent certification or previous peer review ratification.
2. When a member is both a Specialist and a Supervisor: only one Peer Review is held, addressing both certifications; both a Specialist and a Supervisor will serve on the Peer Review team; and the Peer Review coordinator for Supervisors will coordinate the review
3. When a member is certified in both CPE and PCE one person from each steam will serve on the Peer Review team. Only one review is necessary to maintain dual certification.
4. Candidates are encouraged to complete their Peer Reviews at regional or national meetings in order to lessen expense and to expand the pool of people available to serve on the Peer Review team.
The Process
1. The Specialist Peer Review Coordinator keeps track of Peer Reviews due dates and writes to the candidate. The Coordinator also informs the appropriate Chair of the Regional Professional Practice Commission.
2. The Peer Review Candidate selects his or her appointee to the review team and informs the Chair of the Regional Professional Practice Commission of the name of that person.
3. The Regional Professional Practice Chair recruits the CAPPE/ACPEP appointee to the review team and informs the Candidate of that name.
4. The reviewee is responsible to provide the Specialist Peer Review “Report Form” for the reviewers, and any related documentation that would enhance the meeting.
5. The Peer Review occurs and the report form is completed.
6. The CAPPE/ACPEP appointee on the Peer Review team forwards the original report form to the Coordinator of Specialist Peer Reviews. A copy is given to the reviewee.
7. The Peer Review Coordinator reads the report and if the review has been positive, forwards it to the National Office where it is kept until the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
8. Before the AGM, the Chair of the Professional Practice Commission reads the Peer Review report and ratifies it, if the review has been positive. Then the Chair reports the outcome of the review to the Commission for approval.
9. Following approval, the Vice Chair of the Professional Practice Commission will inform the reviewee of the results and confirm attendance at the National Conference to receive their certificate.
