UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA & STOLLERY CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS
(4 stipended positions available each year)
The staff and supervisors within Spiritual Care and Cultural Services at the UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA AND STOLLERY CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS invite you to join us in learning about hospital chaplaincy through a year long program in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). This program is divided into two parts. First there are three, full-time, back to back, basic/advanced supervised CPE units. Then, Chaplain Residents who have completed at least one unit of Advanced CPE may remain at UAH/Stollery over the summer months to learn through apprenticeship and the accumulation of "work experience" hours, in keeping with CASC/ACSS standards.
The full scope of services in our department includes not only chaplaincy but also the unique contributions of Aboriginal Cultural Helpers and a Coordinator of Multicultural Services. Our shared purpose is to offer pastoral, spiritual, and cultural care to a wide variety of seriously and critically ill patients, their relatives, and healthcare providers. Chaplain Residents in our program can complete their CPE as Basic, Advanced and/or Supervisory units in conjunction with their pursuit of academic degrees, CASC/ACSS certification, and continuing education. Likewise, their yearlong commitment to learning and ministry provides in-depth opportunities to work with individuals and families in our hospital's Emergency, Cardiology, Renal, Neurology, Surgery/Trauma, Critical Care/Burns, Medicine, and Child Health patient care programs.
COURSES WTIH ST. STEPHEN'S COLLEGE & THE FACULTY OF NURSING
Through a special partnership between St. Stephen's College, and Spiritual Care and Cultural Services at our Hospitals, the Chaplain Residents' CPE curriculum includes (tuition free to the students) participation in graduate course SSC 589 "Theological Reflection in the Practice of Ministry" (3 credits). A second course option, offered during the summer through the University of Alberta Faculty of Nursing, INTD 577 "Spiritual Assessment in the Promotion of Health" (3 credits) can be attended by Chaplain Residents on a 30% tuition discount basis.
ROMAN CATHOLIC PRIEST CHAPLAIN CPE RESIDENCY POSITION
Through a special partnership between the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton, and Spiritual Care and Cultural Services at our Hospitals, a CPE Residency position is being funded by the Archdiocese so that a Roman Catholic Priest candidate, who meets the pre-requisites for admission to the Chaplain Residency program and who is interested in providing ministry to Roman Catholic patients/families at our Hospitals, can have this opportunity.
PRE-REQUISITES
The pre-requisites for admission to CPE Chaplain Residency positions are a minimum of one Basic Unit of CPE, screening by qualified CASC/ACSS supervisors and personnel at this centre, and commitment to on-site ministry placement with acute care patients. Applications are received throughout the year; screening interviews begin in January and continue until all positions in the program are filled.

The first 3 persons accepted to the year long Chaplain Residency Program will receive a STIPEND OF $20,000, PLUS SSC589 & INTD577 COURSE TUITION BENEFITS paid by the centre. An administration fee of $300.00 for each CPE unit will be paid by the student to the centre.
